Children laugh an average of 300 times a day.

Little kids splash in the mud. They don’t hold back. They don’t want to sleep because they might miss something. They ask a thousand questions and blurt out profound truths. They take terrible risks to discover new things. They discover dogs, dandelions and dinosaurs. They revel in dirt, dancing and desserts. They eat life.

Children’s worlds are stretching every day. They laugh an average of 300 times a day. How did we forget how to do that?!?!?!

Two important things to remember about life as we age…

There are two skills to growing old as the big happy kid you were born to be. First, you have to remember that at some point this mud is absolutely going to dry up and turn into dust. We are all going to die. Most of us just don’t know when. We may rail against the unfairness of ‘dying too soon’ but we just haven’t been listening to the clock ticking.

The second is to figure out how to remember that every day. I promise that if you do, you will play harder, be more curious, and laugh more. When you’re 82, you could have laughed 8,979,000 times. The world is still that funny. You just developed some bad habits.

This child doesn’t have a care in the world.

They say, “When you’re dying, you never wish you’d spent more time at the office.” People often have trouble letting go at the end if they didn’t spend enough time doing things that brought them joy. So, whatever play means to you, DO. IT. NOW.

Practically Dying has a sister business tucked away under its wing – Complete Living. We’re curious about all the ways we can get back in love with life. We’re looking for the blessings and smiles and moments of awe that are around every corner every day. The things that help us during hard times.

Look for blessings and smiles and moments of awe.
